Getting the basics right at scale across organizations, geographies and vertical layers is key to building momentum and translating ambition into concerted execution.

A vision is not built in isolation. Strategy needs to be molded by expectations, customized for what an organization needs and can digest at any given time. It has to be translated into communication themes, org charts, and talent attraction. If we are to build new things and have the courage to move mountains, we need to have an organization that is fully aligned in all respects. We need to listen!

Seeking the new is not easy. We have to leave behind what we know, build and allow ambiguity. But the journey can be fantastic if everyone holds hands and is able to build trust.

What matters is getting things done. Execution is not a stepchild of strategy; it stands bold and proud, and ultimately is what brings strategy to life. Getting things done requires talent, gravitas, capability, passion, focus, discipline, fierce ambition to get the basics right, and walking step by step together.

Leadership is never finished. If we invest in talented people and spend time bringing them on, building expectations, setting goals and raising the bar together as a group, we can be confident of achieving excellence. Scaling this requires continuous focus and repeating the magic. If we lead them well, gifted people will grow and develop. The more the stakeholders like what they see, the more they will demand.

Dialog with stakeholders bring the wisdom a company needs. It tells you where your partners stand, which thoughts resonate with them and which ones don’t.

Listening is crucial.

We have to constantly fine tune our path based on what we have heard, to make it even more impactful, elevate what is possible and bring our leadership team and group along with us.

I have learned about the importance of consistency in leadership: being clear in what you say, sticking to your course and walking the talk. People around us listen very closely to what we say. Repeating what we stand for and what matters to us by setting the expectations for teams and stakeholders lets people know what we care about. Consistency also builds trust. Keep your promises. If you can’t, reach out and explain. Thats caring, that’s authenticity in leadership.
“It’s not about winning or losing, it’s about playing it well. Do your best. If we lose, we should at least be able to say we played well. Sometimes we win, but could still have played even better. Focus on your game.”
